Honoring National Coding Week: Makpar’s Innovation Lab Code Challenge Win

This week marks National Coding Week, which aims to bring coding and digital literacy to the masses and increase coding expertise to close the IT skills gap in the United States.

For the Makpar Innovation Lab, coding is the foundation for introducing new products and services for government through testing and development of the latest emerging technologies.

While Makpar is considered a smaller government IT business, the Makpar Innovation Lab is already making big waves in the government arena since its launch in May 2021.

Earlier this year, the Innovation Lab won a highly competitive government agency code challenge, beating out many larger industry players. In this “David Versus Goliath” tale, the Makpar Innovation Lab left no stone unturned in this code challenge.

From developing an Agile process that was scripted out to the minute to holding many mock rehearsals to choosing the right collaborative tools, the team created a truly unified front that paved with way for this special win.

As National Coding Week aims to help young people embrace coding, the Makpar Innovation Lab also fosters new talent.

For example, the Innovation Lab provided optimal growth opportunities for its very own dynamic summer of 2022 interns – offering a path towards a prosperous career in government IT.  Along these lines, Phung Ngo, a former Makpar intern, actually transitioned into being a fulltime UX/Front End Developer at the company.

In addition, beyond fostering young talent and wining code challenges, the Makpar Innovation Lab is truly doing cutting-edge work. For example, Aurora Parisea, a Full Stack Developer at Makpar, recently built a neural network that can be used to augment human-driven tasks, and free up government and defense personnel to focus on more strategic, mission-focused work.

We are excited to honor National Coding Week, and hope it paves the way for the next generation of IT talent that will help government best serve the mission.
