Makpar Summer Intern Spotlight: Elle Newman and Tim Oyediran

As a company that offers an award-winning work culture that supports inclusivity, as well as personal and professional growth, Makpar also provides optimal growth opportunities for its summer interns – providing a path to viable careers in government IT.

As a new blog post series, we are spotlighting the company’s summer interns to gain their perspectives on what they have learned in their roles and why they chose Makpar. For the second installment of this series, we offer the following perspectives our marketing and communications intern, and another intern supporting the Makpar Innovation Lab.

Elle Newman

Elle Newman is a rising Junior at the University of Maryland pursuing a dual degree in marketing and studio art. She works as our Marketing and Communications Intern at Makpar.

What is your favorite part of working at Makpar?

My favorite part about working at Makpar is that it is a small business, and the work I do within the marketing and communications team makes an impact. It gives my work more meaning and motivates me to put my all into everything I do.

What drew you to work at Makpar?

The company culture was the main aspect that drew me to Makpar. My family runs a small chiropractic business where I had worked as their social media manager. To be able to work for a family-run business was really exciting to me. Moreover, the company’s values, especially the calm execution and upifting our communities, really drew me to the company because it demonstrated that Makpar truly cares about its employees and the community at large.

Who is your biggest inspiration at Makpar?

My biggest inspiration at Makpar is my manager, Fareeha Khan, Communications and Marketing Manager. She is an absolute joy to work with, and makes me excited to go to work every day. She has taught me so much and challenged me in ways that has brought out the best in me. Her ability to communicate and lead others is also awesome to watch. The work she has done, on her own, in the marketing and communications department is truly impressive. I aspire to have her motivation, creativity, and charisma as I continue my professional career.

Tim Oyediran

Tim Oyediran is a student at Alabama A&M University, studying Computer Science. He is a Quality Assurance (QA) Tester at the Makpar Innovation Lab.

What is the most valuable skill you’ve gained/lesson you’ve learned from working at Makpar?

One of the lessons is to always ask questions when you don’t fully understand a topic or when you’re confused. One more thing I’ve learned is that even if you have a lot of experience, it’s good to hear other’s opinions and suggestions, because there are multiple ways to solve one problem -- but the most efficient way is the key.

How has Makpar helped you grow professionally?

I have grown professionally by watching how the team plans items and objections out before executing them.

Tell us about your roll as an intern.

I work in the Innovation Lab testing the functionality of User Interfaces (UA) and to make sure they have no errors.  For example, if a client tells the team to make a login page for a website, my job is to test the login-in page to make sure the username/email section and password section work properly.

We would like to thank Elle and Tim for all of their great work this summer!
